Leni Riefenstahl Summer Olympics 1936 Berlin Olympia Beauty Original German Book
Beauty in the Olympic Match Here is a stunning book by Leni Riefenstahl, the world-famous German photographer and film maker who filmed the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. Riefenstahl is one of the greatest film makers of all time. It's a large folio volume of still photographs of Riefenstahl's filming of her motion picture Olympia. Generally considered the finest sports documentary ever produced, Olympia is well portrayed in this wonderful collection of photogravures of the various sporting events of the 1936 Berlin Olympics. At the rear of this coffee table book is a section showing many pictures of Riefenstahl shooting the film. All photographs are identified and captioned in five languages: German, French, English, Spanish, and Italian. [Olympia was a controversial film considered by many to be the greatest sports film ever made. Olympia won the Grand Prize at the Venice Film Festival, where it was shown in 1938, and has always been judged a magnificent example of cinematography. This volume of work was compiled by Riefenstahl while the film was still in production, and a number of the photographs at the end of the book show her working on the film.]

THE ARMY THAT GOT AWAY: THE GERMAN 15. ARMEE IN THE SUMMER OF 1944
THE ARMY THAT GOT AWAY: THE GERMAN 15. ARMEE IN THE SUMMER OF 1944 by Jack Didden and Maarten Swarts, 528 pages, Over 900 b+w wartime photos, over 100 maps This book is essential reading for anyone interested in the epic struggle against Germany in the West during the summer of 1944. The prevailing story in books and television documentaries always follows the same, incomplete sequence: first we have Operation Overlord (D-Day), next there is the fighting in Normandy, resulting in the breakout, and finally we get Operation Market Garden. But what happened between Normandy and Market Garden is glossed over in a few paragraphs, at best. This period which saw the Allies racing east and the German troops in the West on the brink of collapse found the German 15th Army under General Von Zangen trapped against the Channel coast following the capture of Antwerp on 4 September 1944. Surprisingly the history of this army has never been told so far. This is ironic because at the time 15. Armee figured prominently in the minds of Allied commanders in the weeks following the breakout from Normandy. They were all too aware of this potential threat to their left flank, but decided to run the risk anyway. Similarly, the German High Command, had only one question: how do we save Von Zangen’s army and stop the Allied avalanche? It seemed an impossible task for soldiers on foot or with horse-drawn transport against a highly mobile opponent. Nevertheless, the army made it out of the pocket largely intact and lived to fight another day. This book tells the day-to-day story of an army whose survival was to have a huge impact on subsequent operations especially, including Operation Market Garden. Readers of our books will know that the text is based on primary sources only and that the Allied units and their actions are also discussed in detail. The story of how the army managed to get away, but also how it initially took part in the battle for Normandy, is now told in full for the very first time and a major gap in the story of World War Two is finally addressed. This book follows the formula of our previous two books, ‘Autumn Gale’ and ‘Kampfgruppe Walther’ and so will again be of interest to modelers and military historians. It also serves as a kind of prequel to the other two books completing the trilogy. There will only be one limited printing run. All books are entirely in English unless noted otherwise. Winner pays $9.00 shipping within the US. I combine purchases and the rate goes way down after the first book purchased. International orders billed at cost. I will ship anywhere in the world. If you have any questions about payment options please contact me. I SHIP ANYWHERE ON THIS PLANET. Be assured, though I may not always have the lowest price, you will not get any cheap bookclub editions from me on ebay. I've been selling books for many many years and I can spot cheap bookclubs a mile away. Hand me a book and I'll tell you straight off if it's a bookclub edition. Sometimes it can be hard for most booksellers to know if it's a bookclub, like university press books. They don't normally put the price on the jacket for the publisher's edition, but most of them do use full or partial cloth binding, whereas the bookclub edition will be simply cheap board covers. Though let's face it, most of the publisher's editions these days aren't all that great in quality either, the bookclubs are even worse! Please look at my ebay store where many similar titles are available.
